According to BCCI the retention policy allow highest bidder in the Mega Auction have another chances to increase their bid before the another team holding Right to match (RTM) card. The new change allow team to bid highest again for a player and purchase in increased price this will give benefit for directly to the franchise initially bid.

For example, if Team 1 holds the RTM for a player and Team 2 places a bid of INR 6 crore, Team 1 is then asked if they wish to exercise their RTM. If Team 1 agrees, Team 2 is then allowed to increase their bid to any amount – say INR 8 crore – which Team 1 must match to retain the player

According to a report from Cricbuzz, franchises argue that this change shifts the balance of power and dilutes the purpose of the RTM. The essence of the original RTM rule was to secure a player at a market-validated price, but the new process allows for arbitrary increments in the final bid, making it challenging for teams holding the RTM to compete.

Many franchise argues that the team who have lot money in his pocket can easily disrupt the auction. Where as other teams can’t do anything this rules only favour wealthier teams. This rules also not good because it give highest bidder another change to increase bid this will caused biding process and also effected player market price.

The BCCI’s released statement: “The highest bidder will be given one final opportunity to raise their bid for a player before the team holding the RTM card can exercise their right.”

In one of them franchise criticized that Cricbuzz: “The RTM’s purpose is to establish a player’s market value, but under the new system, that value can be artificially inflated, forcing teams to match bids that may not accurately reflect the player’s worth.”

Some franchises make plan if all franchises against this rule and take serious action this will affect the BCCI management or they will revise or recall previous rules ahead of mega auction 2025.

This new rule Effect the franchise because the player who was not deserving big price can directly benefit with this rule and the player who was impressed with his performance but sold in lower price effect the player status.

BCCI try to attracting top class player to the mega auction. BCCI already make higher price cap for retained player for Rs 18 crore for first ranked and 14 crore for 2nd ranked position players. BCCI also limit pre auction retention and boost compitition in the auction.
